Product Overview The 150-170 W Convection fuel cell stack is a 24 cell stack that does not require external humidification or pressurization. Gold-plated current collectors ensure that this stack achieves maximum performance for precision experiments. The stack comes complete with instruction manual, I/R plot, shade for assisting the convection air flow and a six-month warranty. Possible sources of hydrogen for the 150-170 W convection fuel cell stack include electrolyzers (PEM- and alkaline technologies), gas bottles, metal hydride tanks and hydrogen from chemical reactions. In order to use the fuel cell in both operating modes a control unit is required which drives the cooling fans and regulates the hydrogen flow for dead-ended operations with the help of an electronic timer and a solenoid valve. The unit includes an air compressor, air filtration unit, cooling unit: automatic cooling at set temperatures, flow meters for hydrogen and air, control valves for hydrogen and air, panel containing voltmeter, ammeter, and temperature measuring device plus Fittings and tubing.
These stacks are "Air-Breathing", Convection style stacks with self-humidified Membrane Electrode Assemblies. Hydrogen can be kept dead-ended and water is removed continuously from the stack. The maximum operating temperature can be from 65-70 °C and at pressures from 1 to 10 psi. No special startup procedure or forced flow of air is required, however much higher power densities can be obtained utilizing forced air flow.
