The Dr. FuelCell Methanol Fuel Cell expansion kit can be used to investigate Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFC) to understand the differences between a gas (hydrogen) as an energy carrier and a liquid (methanol) as energy carrier in fuel cells.
Students will be able to explore how easy it is to use a methanol fuel cell by simply filling the cell with a methanol solution. They will also learn that a DMFC needs up to 20 minutes for best performance, while the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell works within seconds! But which cell is more powerful?
