FuelCellsEtc offers customized Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCMs) for the electrochemical reduction of CO2, or CO2RR. In CO2 Reduction, carbon dioxide is electrochemically transformed into carbon monoxide (CO), methanol (CH3OH), and numerous other value-added chemicals. In the CO2RR, the cathode catalyst is a key determinant of system performance, as it directly governs the adsorption, activation, and subsequent reduction pathways of CO2 molecules. The selection of the cathode catalyst material is therefore critical—not only for enhancing activity and stability under operating conditions, but also for tuning product selectivity. The cathode catalyst for these customizable CCMs is customizable by the end-user. This allows you to select the proper catalyst composition (or even let us know your custom cathode catalyst composition) to meet your specific needs. These CCMs are manufactured with proton exchange membranes and utilize acid chemistry for their operating principle.
FuelCellsEtc’s highly efficient and durable alloyed mixed oxide of Iridium Ruthenium Oxide (IrRuOx) catalyst is utilized at the anode side of these custom CCMs to enable generation of protons (which are transported to the cathode side and electrochemically react with the CO2 over the cathode electrocatalyst) and oxygen gas at the anode side. Membrane thickness, membrane type, anode and cathode catalyst compositions, and their loading values can be easily customized.
