Fuel Cell Store offers various custom graphite flow field (also known as graphite plates) manufacturing services with different designs and dimensions.  Serpentine, interdigitated, straight or parallel, column-pin, and various other flow patterns can be easily machined into the graphite plates with various aspects in order to study the flow dynamics, mass transfer as a function of flow pattern, distribution of the reactants as a function of flow pattern, and various other electrochemical characterizations.  Graphite plates are selected from impervious graphite stock in order to minimize the diffusion of liquid or gaseous reactants through the plates itself.  Graphite plates are highly suitable for H2/Air (hydrogen/air), H2/O(hydrogen/oxygen), DMFC (direct methanol fuel cell), flow battery, redox flow battery, and other relevant electrochemical device testing.  Reference electrode option can also be included in the custom graphite flow field in order to study one particular electrochemical reaction in greater details.

Custom graphite flow fields are manufactured from 100% pure graphite based electrodes and have excellent electrical conductivity, high heat transfer, and superb corrosion resilience for various fuel cell and other relevant electrochemical device testing or applications.

Custom graphite plates or graphite flow fields can be ordered in any quantities (single, in pair or multiple quantities as needed).  Each plate can be ordered with metal peg and a 4 mm banana plug as a standard item for attaching various electrical connection or sensor leads (voltage or current leads).  Fuel Cell Store is also providing various customizations such as graphite plates with 1/4" Nylon or 1/4" PTFE compression fittings at an additional cost (please see the dropdown menu when selecting the configuration to order).  Further details are provided below for these various configurations.  Other fitting options are also available. Please contact us for these custom graphite flow fields with your drawing file (if you have any) or would like to setup a machining request for your custom flow field that is suitable for your own projects or experiments.

Graphite plates are not suitable for electrochemical cells or applications that have half cell potentials greater than 1.23 V (versus NHE) or applications that utilize corrosive chemicals/electrolytes that would present a situation where carbon atoms can be oxidized either electrochemically or chemically.

Active Area Dimensions: Custom (per customer's requirement or specifications)

Active Area: Custom (per customer's requirement or specifications)

Flow Pattern or Channel Design: Custom (per customer's requirement or specifications)

Total Physical Dimensions for Graphite Plates: Custom (per customer's requirement or specifications)

Thickness of the Graphite Plates: Custom (per customer's requirement or specifications)

Fuel Cell Store does require the customers to submit their custom flow field designs drawing flies (preferably in ProE file formatting) in order to reduce the overall cost.  If the customer does not have capabililty of submitting their own 3-D CAD models or 2D drawing files, most standard designs would require a minimum of 10 hours of engineering service (with an additional fee, 350 USD per hour) in order to obtain the specifications from the customer and generate the 3-D CAD models that can easily be compiled for machine code for CNC machining.  The engineering service fee is solely for the design efforts and does not include the cost of the parts machining cost, and other fees (such as shipping/handling, international transaction fee for customers outside of US, etc.).  Sophisticated flow patterns would require more time and hence higher production. Please contact us for your custom graphite flow fields with your drawing file (if you have any) or would like to setup a machining request for your custom flow field that is suitable for your own projects or experiments.

Depending on the level of design and machining, a typical lead time of 6-8 weeks is to be expected.
