Orion CM1 anion exchange ionomer is a dispersion product that can be used to manufacture catalyst inks for alkaline electrodes and in other relevant production processes. The solid polymer content in this ionomer solution is 5 wt% in a proprietary organic solvent. Currently, this product is offered in 25 mL per container for its volume.
Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) manufactured from Orion CMX resin demonstrated excellent durability and lifetime. NREL's blind study that was conducted in October 2019 showed that AEMs based on Orion's proprietary resin can be operated at temperatures of up to 80 ºC with 1M KOH for more than 1000 hours. Virtually, there was no degradation. Such excellent durability and high temperature stability makes Orion membrane and ionomer products ideal materials for various electrochemical applications. Anion exchange membranes can also be manufactured from the corresponding ionomer solution.
AEMs or dispersions made with Orion's proprietary resin can potentially be used for the following applications: alkaline fuel cells (with or without electrolyte), alkaline electrolyzers, alkaline batteries, electrochemical compressors, and a wide variety of other alkaline chemistry based electrochemical devices. AEMs or dispersions based on Orion resin are stable under neutral and alkaline conditions.
