These closed monopolar plates can be used for the Flex-Stak Series, or you can use them as the basis to build your own fuel cell where the anode and cathode reactants are transferred to the respective side in the desired flow rate with the aid of a pump or blower. The monopolar plates provide a mean to isolate the anode and cathode chambers from the surrounding ambience in order to have the closed-anode or closed-cathode configuration compared to air-breathing (or passive) design based plates. These monopolar plates are manufactured from graphite material and they can be used for H2/Air, H2/O2, direct methanol fuel cells, and other various other electrochemical applications where there is no corrosive liquids. Cathode side of the standard PEM electrolyzers can also benefit greatly from these plates. Due to the oxidation of graphite, these monopolar plates should not be used at the anode side of the electrolyzers.
