• 0.2 mg/cm² 20% Platinum on Vulcan - Carbon Paper Electrode

A low-cost electrode utilizing a carbon fiber paper substrate and a 20% Platinum on Vulcan Carbon support catalyst.  This low loading is designed for cost-sensitive applications and is suitable for electrochemical systems needing low amounts of Platinum to support the reaction.  This electrode is perfect for Hydrogen/Air Fuel Cell applications where the extra cost of the higher loading GDE may not be justified. The Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) used is Sigracet 22 BB, which is 215 microns thick. Made with XT Catalysts.

Includes a Nafion Post Coat for improved water management and adhesion to the membrane.

Other GDL materials are also available by custom request, as are custom sizes and loadings.

An article by Quentin Meyer and his colleagues (through a collaboration between University of South Wales, Newcastle University, and Paul Scherrer Institute) entitled "Lateral bypass flow fields for high-performance flood-free hydrogen fuel cells" describes the use of 0.2 mg/cm² 20% Platinum on Vulcan - Carbon Paper Electrode in the lateral bypass concept for the PEMFC graphite bipolar plates and achieving excellent performance. This product achieved current densities in excess of 3 A/cm² in a Hydrogen-Air PEM fuel cell at ambient pressure. The extensive nature of this publication makes it an excellent reading material for electrochemists in the field of PEM fuel cells, especially for the researchers that are studying flooding phenomenon and how to mitigate it while using the typical PEM fuel cell components.
